Weeee— it’s new feature time here at Design for Mankind! I’ve been partnering with dear Kylie from Bandelle for a week now and am so excited to bring you the new feature that she has BRILLIANTLY labored over:
Double Take: a glance into the silver screen’s hottest rooms and how YOU can re-create them!
I know, Kylie’s fabulous, and here she is bringing you the first edition with a FABULOUS office from none other than ABC’s hit, Cashmere Mafia.
Thank you, dear Kylie— take it away! :)
Let’s see if we can recreate the Cashmere Mafia look but minus the whopping big budget that Caitlin, a marketing executive for a cosmetics firm, must have. While I’m meeting with my clients, I definitely wouldn’t mind sitting on the Clarke Sofa from Room & Board. This gorgeous sofa in dorien fabric is flanked by two lamps, similar to the Opus table lamps. Navy pillows bring a touch of chicness to the sofa, which Oromono’s ridge pillows will definitely add. Sophie side chairs from Oly will provide ultra-luxurious seating at the parsons inspired table. And we’ll round out the space with the Bordeaux console table, perhaps spraying it in a brighter gold to match Caitlin’s piece.
Now let’s tackle the walls. A very neutral palette gives Caitlin’s office a certain level of elegance. When I think of shades of cream and white, there is no place to look for inspiration other than Sarah Richardson’s designs featured on Design Inc (check out her show on Fine Living). Sarah is a master at creating soothing rooms with pops of color, and often uses Pratt & Lambert paint. I’m a Benjamin Moore gal but perhaps it’s time for a change. Silver lining, featured in one of Sarah’s living room designs, would be a close match for Caitlin’s walls. And the walls will glow with the light provided by the abundance of lamps around her office
After we paint those walls, we must hang eye popping artwork like this pink orchid. For a touch more drama, why not add some decadent moulding? If you still have the February issue of Domino lying around, revisit the deep purple paneling on page 37 (or see it here). This room grabbed me as I flipped through the pages last month, probably because of the moulding and rich color. And like I said, all the Cashmere Mafia interior designers need to add is a Paris Flea Market chandelier, and Domino has done just that!
What??!?!!??! This is awesome and a brilliant idea. I look forward to seeing more.
Hm. I think you meant Cashmere Mafia? Cashmere Mafia– ABC; Lipstick Jungle– NBC.
Awesome feature! But I believe she’s talking about Cashmere Mafia, not Lipstick Jungle (hard to tell the two apart, I know!).
Ha, thanks anonymous’— I was TOTALLY confused b/w the two, b/c I’ll admit— I don’t even WATCH TV. Yep, Kylie’s DEFINITELY the brains behind this bunch. ;)
Anyway, THANKS for the corrections!! :)
THANKS for adding this feature to your blog. I’m having so much fun writing it and finding great rooms. The problem is that now I was to shop all day long!
HA– PROBLEM? No way… :)
just when I thought DFM couldn’t get any better….great idea for a feature!
