As we prep for another off-grid summer out west, we’re doing the early work of whittling down our packing list to the bare essentials. For me, the hardest area to cull – by far – is the bookshelf. How can we possibly begin to select our favorite poetry volumes, nature books, field guides, and inspiring stories? Perhaps moreso, how can we dare to leave the rest behind?
And then this book arrived on my stoop. A tiny (beautiful) treasure filled with 50 adventuring prompts, each paired with the bare essentials: prayer, ponderings, poetry and an invitation for nature play. Lightning sculpts, sand drawings, forest floor art – each idea remarkably profound, yet wondrously simple. I’ll be tucking this friendly field guide into my duffel while the kids and I happily explore it the whole summer long.
May it return home with us dust-covered, dog-eared, and spent. As may we.
