Oooh, I love a good DIY in the morning! French website Esprit Cabane offers a fabulous tutorial for reusing those old light bulbs that just keep burning out.
The bad news is I can’t understand a WORD the tutorial says, but the GOOD news is that there are pictures! If you can decipher the code, you win a beautiful new light bulb vase behind DOOR NUMBER THREE!
Enjoy… and if you’re really feeling feisty, how CUTE are these S&P shakers?
EDIT: Fellow blogger Kevin Grace a.k.a. Decor Journal was kind enough to lend a hand in the translation department. Here are the instructions for the above tutorials:
For the purpose of recycling, here is a chance to repurpose old light bulbs to suspended vases, salt and pepper shakers. These spheres of glass lend themselves to light and airy creations.
Procedure: Saw the base of the light bulb screw with a metal saw, placing the bulb on a piece of wood, turning the bulb regularly. Once the cut is made, insert a screwdriver and break the glass filament,*Use eye protection* With a drill bit or rasp enlarge the hole and smooth the metal. To create vases suspended, drill two holes in the metal and attach aluminum wire to hang. To create a whole salt and pepper, drain two bulbs. Lightly pat the top of screw with a hammer, Add Soda caps punched with an awl to use for salt and pepper shakers.
Thanks, Kevin!
my FRONCH is rusty, but here goes.

(this is my rough translation) Cool Idea!
The part about snap a light bulb was another way to do it with a glass cutter…I meant to take that out…sloppy editing.Would you take that out? There’s no way it would work. You’d snap 10 bulbs for every one you got!
Thanks, Kevin— done and done!
i like it.
maybe i should give it a try…
great idea!
