In Gloucestershire, during the month of May, cheese chasers risk serious injury for the chance of winning a muddied cheese at the bottom of a slippery hill.
A bizarre tradition indeed, but I suppose it’s no less odd than stuffing our faces w/ turkey in November. Also? Cheese is yummy. I’d say that’s a fair incentive.
and better than the hot dog eating contest in coney island on july 4th. i love cheese and england!
HAHA i love this!
Unfortunately … due to health and safety concerns, it has been banned! … No not, for the inherent dangerousness of chucking yourself off a hill … but because more people than the hill can manage turn up. Spectating is dangerous!

I bet that cheese is worth all the risk ;)
So cute. Love the idea :)))

If I could only watch this event in person- I bet it is HILAR!
It would be great to combine this type of event with a wine and cheese tasting. You eat a little, you drink a little, and then you get a chance to chase the cheese:)

Haha! Isn’t it great?! I live in the NEXT county along from Gloucestershire and I have NEVER been to this event. Infact, it’s existence slipped my memory this year. I REALLY should make an effort to go along don’t you think? xx
omg YES!
