Museum gift shops are kind of my best-kept secret for discovering new and unique (unewque?) kids’ gifts. From books to games to educational toys, the variety can’t be beat when shopping for all ages. (Also of note? Membership discounts!) And although I don’t have a museum we frequent here in the Midwest, I often take advantage of the following online museum gift shops to satiate my discovery-loving appetite!:
1. Leonardo da Vinci helicopter kit ($19.95) at MET Museum Store
2. Retro scooter ($105) at SFMoma Store
3. Astronaut duvet cover ($98) at MCA Store
4. Animal masks ($20) at MoMA Store
5. Loose-leaf onesie ($35) at MoMA Store
6. Yoshimoto cube ($65) at MoMA Store
7. Natural beaded rattle ($18) at Cooper Hewitt Shop
8. Max push car ($260) at Cooper Hewitt Shop
9. Balloon racer ($6.50) at MoMA Store
10. Duller colored pencils ($60) at Cooper Hewitt Shop
11. American whistle ($12) at Cooper Hewitt Shop
12. Egyption pyramid archaeology kit ($24.95) at MET Store
13. Topsy-Turvy stacking blocks ($20) at Wexner Center Store
14. Playon crayon ($12.95) at The Modern Shop

Oh, that astronaut duvet gets me every time.
p.s. My favorite baby gift, kid gift and custom gift.
Loving those stacking blocks and that mobile!
Me too! The blocks are wonderful!
My son (3yo) received the Smithsonian Museum rocket ship for his birthday and, months later, it continues to be one of his favorite toys. Even though it’s plastic, it has withstood numerous falls and active play from a gregarious kid and it’s still in great shape: http://www.smithsonianstore.com/two-in-one-space-rocket-67939.html
What a great gift, Erin! And man, that store really is the greatest. :)
(Also, how is he 3 already? My GOSH!)
Totally agree. I love museum gifts shops!
They’re the best, right? :)
