As a gal that works from home, I put a surprising amount of thought into what I wear. For some reason, I find that when I look [relatively] put together, I feel [relatively] put together. I wrote a bit more about why I get dressed here, but today I wanted to share the specifics of my “mom uniform.” Here’s hoping it provides inspiration for you new moms who are craving a bit of baby-friendly style yourselves!:
The backbone of my uniform is one simple piece: a deep gray v-neck tee (Pickwick & Weller has some amazingly soft ones!). If you’re nursing, the deep v-neck is essential for obvious reasons (unless you pull your shirt up, which I cannot seem to master myself!). I’d recommend investing in 5 total, because you’ll inevitably end up wearing at least two each day (again, for obvious reasons involving spit-up/poo/pee/general baby grossness). Super easy to wash, super stain-resistant and super comfy. Done.
Around the House:
Although yes, sometimes you can find me in my pj’s, I’m generally in some version of my gray tee and yoga pants (with house slippers, of course!). This way, if Bee’s fussy and I’m craving some fresh air, I can throw on sneakers for a walk around the neighborhood without having to change my whole get-up in the middle of a newborn tantrum. Easy peasy!
Running Errands:
When I’m out and about, I pair my gray tee with boyfriend jeans (the trick to boyfriend jeans is to actually wear, yes, your man’s pants!) and some kicky shoes for a bit of style (I like these!). I also regularly don headscarves to cover dirty, mashed-on-one-side hair.
Date Night / Dinner Out:
For an impromptu date night (what’s that?!), again, my gray tee is in regular rotation. I simply throw on a bold blazer (I love this one from Rebecca Minkoff, but mine is a cheaper (sold out) version from LOFT), polka dot skinny jeans and some bright heels. Add a clutch and a statement necklace and I’m ready for some grown-up time!
So easy, right? Tell me, what’s your mom uniform? I can’t tell you how easy it is to get dressed in the morning when I stick with just a few go-to options. Happy outfitting!
