A Place of One’s Own

When you’re feeling pent-up in an unfinished cabin with a hundred things to do and nary the motivation to do them, when you’re seeking a visual break from cables and power tools and half-finished drywall (all evidence of the not-yet-tackled hundred things), when you’ve settled into a rhythm that feels peaceful, yes, but soft around the edges, like you’re a little lonely, a little listless, missing dear friends and solid familiarity and the small comfort of your favorite tea kettle, might I suggest a hammock?

My dear friend in Germany sent this my way after hearing a catch in my throat on our latest phone call. Double or single? she spouts off. Don’t answer that. Color preferences? Don’t answer that either. This is our family’s favorite. It’ll be there on Friday. Find a branch.

And with that, our favorite seat in the house (home?) was born.

To Buy: Wise Owl Camping Hammock ($26)
